 This new facility is the second in Princes Georges County certified by Leadership and Energy Enviornmental Design (LEED), an organization that sets standards for green building design, such as rain water management, green house emissions, cutting water usage and waste material management and recycling. The school has amongst it's features a vegetated roof, rain garden to limit soil erosion, waterless urinals, radiant floor heating and straw bale exterior walls encapsulated in earthen plaster, sunscreens to reduce sunlight in the summer. The building is oriented on the land (southern exposure) and is curved allowing the sun to provide heat and light as it travels through the sky. The school is surrounded by 17 acres of woodland, which will have a variety of common areas, such as hiking trails, playing field, and nature trails. The state of the art school has 15 classrooms, an art & science wing, administrative offices,multi-purpose room, library and a lounge.   |
